Default No reason for pure builds?

I have read alot of posts in the 'campfire' section of guildwarsguru.com, and I have occasionaly seen pure builds. I dont understand the point of a pure build (unless you are a monk) because if you are... lets say a ranger, you might as well go monk secondary for the soul perpose of unlimited resurrect (and vengence ;p) Why would anyone even consider being a pure build? (other than the monk class)

i'm a R/N and i slowly became a pure build, The main reason is the fact that with expertise built up all the way ranger skills are cheap as mudd when it comes to energy consumption so basically i can put a skill on every single shot which is nice. Also to be a a good trapper ranger you almost have to be a pure build with maybe the option of switching out one or two skills. I find that there are alot of advantages of being a pure build with a ranger.

Many, if not all experienced ranger players attempt a Pure ranger build. Most attribute points go into Expertise, significantly lowering the energy cost of each skill.

Sometimes in PvE, I go Pure Warrior, with strength, hammer, tactics, but that's just for fun. ^.^

Pure mesmers in PvP are a pain. o_O

well because i was a noobie once and when i first looked at the profession choices i though "hey i liked the amazon and the necro from diablo 2 the best" ,so from my great wisdom i went Ranger/necro needless to say not much thought went into that, i might change my secondayr eventually.

I'm not saying R/N is a bad build but it's just not for me, as i found out ..."doh"

secondary builds just give more versatility.. in Guildwars it's so easy to switch some attribute points and skills.

if you're a R/N for example, one day you're a pure ranger, the other you're a blood stealing one, and yet another day you might be a plague spreading ranger...
opportunities are endless.. this goes for every combination of professions.

if someone has a pure build, doesn't mean they always use the pure build. My Mesmer/Necro for example is now pure mesmer, but ocassionaly I like to put in some curses or some blood magic. And if you're quite known then it's better if you differ builds ocassionaly instead of always using the same one then people will be able to find your weaknesses and just beat you whenever they encounter you.

Well said, that's THE reason to go dual class. All pure classes run into the 'anti-class'. Best to have a secondary to fall back on when the going gets tough.

Well, I am using the pure build. My role in the team is to deal direct damage on target so I am running pure air elementalist. I think that I will be much less effective for the team when trying to deal damage and support others in the same time. IMHO some classes when going pure have their advantages.

Lost to some top ranked GvG teams that all had secondary mesmer, we had no energy (Elite:Energy Drain used by almost entire opposing team). Ranger with Zephyr and other spirits. Warriors run in and mop up. Not the quickest but really demoralizing to sit through.

I've seen more than one Guild use this so be warned.

It's pretty rare that I can't find anything from any secondary better than the 8th skill from the first class, but it does happen. I'd say that no more than 1-2% of our character builds are pure classes.

Peace,

A world of difference it makes when your warrior can cure blindness. Be it Plague Touch, Mend Ailment... really helps in the end.

The advantage of running a pure build is, your attribute points are more concentrated.

The disadvantages are:

1. Many PvE players assume your a n00b if you run a pure build
2. You can only unlock skills for 1 proffesion
3. You run a greater risk of hitting that anti-build for your primary.

IMO, If your doing PvE take a secondary, if for no other reason, then to unlock the skills for PvP. However unless you really want to use other skills, I'd say a PvP only pure build is fine. I have a pure Air Ele PvP only character and it works great.

Also the only useful rezzes in the 4v4 arenas are Vengeance, Unylieding Aura, and Rez Signet.

not wasting attribute points on 2ndary can make you a powerfull party member... I saw a Expert Pure blood Ranger the other day that could trap and Cast some very good spirits. Also hit bow was a battallion of itself... with Barrage and 5:1 vampire string... Needless to say I'm sure pure blood builds are equally as good for Mesners and Necros, Considering their potential with Max Attrib pts in their builds... Tank mesners. OMG.. that would be like OUCH city... (shame and power block with 16 in domination and 12 in fast casting buhBye Support)

You can't make a pure build in PvE - you can't progress from pre-searing until you've chosen a secondary profession. Unless I'm VERY mistaken ...

The biggest reason why people go pure is usually because they cannot fit a secondary class skill into their skillbar. Most warriors, monks, and sometimes rangers, usually have 1 slot at most to dedicate to their secondary, and certain builds within those classes have a skill from their primary profession that's simply too important and is preferred over a skill from their secondary. So you start seeing some builds that are "pure."
